Sharon has lived with horses since she was a child. She has been involved in the mental health field since 1992. Both in the United Kingdom and New Zealand. Latterly as a counsellor for the last 6 years.
Sharon has always been aware of the comforting impact and sensitivity of horses. She discovered the EAGALA model of mental health and personal development whilst living in the United Kingdom and embarked on a journey of bringing together the healing power of horses to her work in mental health. She returned to New Zealand in 2013 and set-up this service in 2015 after becoming guardian to her Equine team.
Sharon also, currently works part-time as a community mental health nurse in an NGO where she is part of an Equine Assisted Therapy team. Sharon is currently studying with EQUUSOMA – Horse Human Trauma Recovery. Equusoma™ is the integration of Somatic Experiencing®, polyvagal theory, attachment theory, and trauma-informed principles into equine-assisted trauma recovery.
Sharon is of Nga Rauru and Ngai Tahu descent.
